On the 22nd July 2009, an instant survey was carried out among 18 overseas postgraduate students and 7 people on the street outside London College of Communication in Elephant & Caste in London. The purpose of the survey was to discover the eating habits and the views of a good restaurant in their opinions.
The survey was conducted by means of a questionnaire given to students to complete. There were fifteen questions (with four exceptions, each involved a ticking items on a list). The first four questions concerned the demographic data. The next nine questions were asked in order to receive the behavioural data, the eating habit. And the last question was created to find the expectation of those who have a meal out of home.
The main findings were as follows. Almost all, only the demographic result were different amongst these two groups of respondent .People in the age of 21-30 were students who live in Elephant & Castle area. These respondents preferred to cook their own food and occasionally go to a restaurant three times a week and the age 31-40 worked around the same area as well. The first ranks of their favourite types of food were full-course Chinese, 80%, followed by a Tai and Italian. And the factors of a restaurant doing well were price and taste which is 100% of the respondents’ satisfaction, 80% was service and physical ambience a concern and the least concern was promotion. None of the respondents ate in a restaurant on their own. For the eating habits part, especially time, nearly 60 percent stared their breakfast from early 7.00a.m -9.00a.m and 40% of them didn’t usually have breakfast, their lunch started from 11:00a.m to 3.00p.m and the dinner started from 5.00p.m -9p.m.
It is difficult to reach to definite conclusion based upon such a small sample of respondents. However, some general comments can be made. None of them go to a restaurant alone. The three most favourite types of food are Chinese, Tai and Italian. Price and taste are the most concerned point of choosing a restaurant, followed by service physical ambience and promotion. Their eating times of each meal are typical yet breakfast is the only meal that is paid less attention.

First Presentation for the Dragon's Den project

To be honest,I rarely did the presentation before.Compare with other classmates who has work exercises already and successful,I thought it was difficult for me to talk in front of many people at the beginning of the project.
I would like to thank Cathy for her clever idea even if it was not clear at first.Because of the creative and the potential of our product,it was easy for us to establish the plan. Along with the development of our product,we began to have different opinions,it was normally. we always listened to each others, especially when we disagreed. It was important in Teamwork.Thank you Erik for your came to term sand thank our designers` perfect design.
Through the project,I took part in a Teamwork and had knowledge about the presentation then achieve a lot.First is attention-you must focus on your project and keep confidence.Second is clinging-you should persevere in your opinion and never give up.Last but not least is cooperate-you can not be the master in all aspects,so you should learn from others and develop into one.
It was my first time felt that it was great to talk about my idea in front of a group of people, really great!

I was crazy about playing football when I was little boy until now.In my memory, there were only there things in my childhood, piano, football and girls.haha, just joks.So I was so exciting when I first time arrived London because I found there have many football venue everywhere.
To play football in England is different from do it in China.Everyone knows that football is a teamwork game. You must have communication with you team members. So play football in London is a chance for me not only do exercises ,but aslo communicate with others, make teamwork and embed in the England culcure. It matbe significant for me.
There is a football venue next to my accomdation.I have always been there everyday unless I have a lot of work to do.I met some people who is older than me.We played like a team,I am very enjoy the sense of perspire. It is great.

Weekdays

How time flies!I have been in London for 2 weeks. At first,I just wanted to stay at home and slept all day, because of the long travel made me so tired. But after that,I adapted myself and now try to go out for some funs.It is great.
Today I went to London Bridge.I walked on the bridge and felt refreshing.Cruise Ship moved under the bridge,London eyes running slowly all day,The bridge jampacked with people from all over the world, they all exciting and enjoy themselves.
I took a phto with the Royal soldier in the White Hall,he looked very handsome and seriousness, even people was scared to come near.it was very traditional.
I consider that Britain`s culture is close to the China in some aspects. It is both traditional and preciseness,I will do some reaserch to compare them soon.
Next week I would like to go to the British Museum and the National Art Centre,I am looking forward it.

Only fighting

Today I met a elder sister who was ready to graduate from the LCC.She told me a lot about life and study in London,it is a great chance for me to know London or LCC very much. One of the important point she mentioned is that the work opportunity.
After she finish her MA course, she want to stay and find a suitable work. But it is known that financial storm has deeply influence on British's economy. It happens every day that amount of people lost their jobs in this storm.she was unconfidence that native people also lost their jobs rather that she was international student.
I encouraged her cause I also long for a job here after I graduate. One years ago,I worked for BOB(Beijing olympic broadcasting) as a cameraman in Beijing olympic game 2008.In the volleyball match,my camera position is at the corner of the venue. My task is to shoot the expression of the players. It is a big challenge for me but at last I have done it very well.
I know the next olympic game will be hold in London,I will contribute to London if I have chance to join LOB,haha, I am looking foward to it.
There will be setbacks and false starts, but above all,I will work hard as British and American People do-block by block, brick by brick, calloused hand by calloused hand .I believe I can realize my dream.

I am so exciting these days that we began to learn some knowledge about marketing.I have learnt that what the marketing and product really is and how important the brand is.We were divided into 8 groups, then combine with the design student, create the product and brand it,consider it from aspect of brand, market,USP,price. To make the product amateur and have business value in the market. This is really what I want.I think it is cool.
I must work hard and make all my passion contribution to the marketing!

ABOUT CINEMA VERITE

My major in BA study is cinematography,so I would like to talk about Cinema cerite.
Cinema Verite movement is happened in 1960s, and the directors want to shot without a script and actors, use the small hand-held cameras, actual location and small budget. Their aim is to show life as it really is.(http://www.parlez-vous.com/misc/realism.htm)
Through the portable equipments, audience will see the people’s real life, like DON’T LOOK BACK, filmed by D.A.Pennebaker, recorded the life of one of the famous singers, Bob Dylan. The whole film is a part of his life, including his some concerts, the moments he wrote songs, the newspaper’s interview, and so on. It did not use the gorgeous places, or the famous locations, only use the usual surroundings, but we can really know it is the truth.
And another thing in this type of film, need our concern, I think is the editing. Because of non-scrip, after recorded , the director have to familar with all video sources and find the relation between every event they filmed, then he can decide how to link the different frames. According to above, I think it requires a lot in editing.
Nowadays, as a filmmaker, it is hard to avoid the influence from the commercial film, due to the big profit and a lot of mass audience. In my opinion, I think it is a treasurable spirit of filmmaker, as all films are based on real life, it should show the life we really live.

Missing the Real Chinese Food
Sometimes, I chose to eat western food when I was in China, because I think some western food is good. These days, I am really missing the Chinese food. There are many differents in eating habits, and it is a little difficult to me to used to the western food.
I noticed that most british people only eat sandwichs or burgers in the noon as lunch, and treat the dinner as the main meal. By contrast, lunch is the main meal in a day in China. It is said 'To eat well in morning, eat full in the noon, and eat less in the evening.' It is a healthy eating habit, which will keep you fit and figure. Absolutely, hundreds of differents dishes are the other important things. I tried to cook my favourit Chinese food but I found that the material is limited, and hard to buy some Chinese vegetables.
Even though there are many Chinese restaurasnts, it is difficult to find the real tradition food as well. I had supper with my friend in a Chinese restaurant in China Town today, and they made me miss the food I ate in China. There is an old idiom' You won't fell homesick if you eat full.'
Nevertheless, I enjoyed the food here and got my favourite one.

Great City

I got to know the UK from my history book when I was in Secondary School, and I was interested in its unique style in architecture, and culture.
I went to see the old bridges over the Thames today. I saw many morden buildings and historic places around the river as well. All the surroundings look so good, as described in the fairy tale. It is really important to an Art Student who needs to study more different culture, especially who wants to extend his knowledge. I took so many pictures that I can use them in my work one day. I think if I can combine the differents together and make it in my style, I will create a fantastic project in future.
Culture likes a symbol of the Nation, so I can feel the the unique tradition through the facilities and architectures in the UK, as same as in China. I believe the country will be stronger with their own culture.
I am eager to see more scenes in the UK, and to experience more in my spare time.
